sematary, the haunted mound, and parasocial relationships (redux)

In my last post, I briefly mentioned wanting to write about Sematary, who is an artist which simultaneously needs no introduction if you know who he is, and an at minimum 45 minute video essay if you don't. To put it simply, he is an artist, rapper, producer, and niche internet micro celebrity whose manufactured rap group, the Haunted Mound, is the successor to such legacies as Yung Lean's Sad Boys and Lil Peep's GothBoiClique. I would include Drain Gang in this, but I see a lot of overlap between their fanbases, and observe Drain Gang's rise separately from Yung Lean as a current event, not a past tyranny to be replaced. I describe his rap group as manufactured because none of the artists (Hackle, Buckshot, and Turnabout) successfully made music before joining the Haunted Mound. Sematary scouted them as friends, visual artists, and fans(?), and literally turned them into rappers. This approach, in stark contrast to the more organic collection of artists seen in pr...

Okay so new Bladee album! Of course I have thoughts.  I think it's perfect. It's a mix of insanely hype tracks- my favorites include I AM SLOWLY BUT SURELY LOSING HOPE and Velociraptor, and some calmer ethereal tracks like BLUE CRUSH ANGEL and She's Always Dancing, all perfectly produced by White Armor. This album flawlessly elaborates on themes brought forward by The Fool and Crest- inner peace, finding yourself and God, humility, love, and beauty. It's glorious and ethereal- Bladee evolves once again, building off almost a decade of expression.  Something I really want to talk about is the theme of finding yourself that I really want to talk about. In my Crest review, I talked about how Bladee is Benjamin Reichwald's art project as well as his sounding board for his real life identity- and as his sound and character evolves as Bladee, it's a mirror of his real life progression as a person. I think this is just a little part of what makes Bladee so attractive- ...

HOLY FUCKING SHIT. new bladee album. i actually can't believe this! this album is already one of my favorite albums ever, so  here's what i think about it. according to ecco's instagram, Crest was recorded in Spring 2020. They've kept this album secret for TWO YEARS!! they're so funny. i'm glad they finally decided to release it. it's dreamy, beautiful, and so otherworldly it makes you laugh out loud sometimes. whitearmor's production is incredible as usual, his samples on these tracks are so genius. Sheep sounds on White Meadow, what sounds like someone biting into an apple or perhaps a skeleton's bones rattling on Yeses (Red Cross), kitty or animal crossing(?) sounds and windshield wipers on Chaos Follows, and the "perfect!" from Street Fighter II on 5 Star Crest (4 Vattenrum) (which also has sheep sounds and windshield wiper sounds). it's all PERFECT. whitearmor is one of the greatest producers of all time (in my opinion) and no on...

whats up sluts today i want to talk about what i'm going to be wearing in the new year. i started a new job, so hopefully i get money and can afford to buy fancy little things to decorate my body with.  first up, piercings and tattoos. finally i have money to get new body modifications :))) i'm so excited! i want to get my ears pierced ofc and maybe a little septum, but most of all, i NEED a bridge piercing. it's the one between the eyes if youre unfamiliar. i think it would just be cute and interesting, especially because it's above a mask so i can show how cool and interesting i am at work or in a class. i also think it would look really nice with the nose piercings i already have. i've also been thinking a lot about tattoos. i want some bullshit medieval tattoos, like a knight or some swords or like saint george and the dragon or something. like some really interesting shit. also, don't make fun of me but what if i got a bladee tattoo.. i was in his .01% of ...

this week i was in seattle and while i was there, i bought + read a couple graphic novels that i would actually highly recommend.  the first book i read was epileptic 1 by david b. i liked this one a lot. it's like an autobiography and it is VERY interesting. the artist had a very complex childhood, and his art portrays his child self's point of view beautifully. to kind of explain the plot, the artist's brother had epilepsy and to treat him, his family turned to like, homeopathic methods. they even stayed at communes! it's a very interesting story, and i plan on reading the other volumes.  the next book is other stories and the horse you rode in on by dakota mcfadzean. i really liked this book!! the cartoons were cute and the plots of the comics are perfectly mysterious. i have a feeling that one day i will be in a situation and i'll be like, oh this is just like that one comic from that book. my favorite was probably the horse you rode in on. it's relatable a...

i LOVE the concept of influencers. it's really interesting to watch someone else's life and get really invested in them just for fun. def one of my favorite things to do on the internet. my favorite influencers are/were just people posting, like just a goth girl from the midwest, or some guy with a mullet, or a soundcloud rapper's wife. the soundcloud rapper's wife is the one who inspired me to write this. yesterday, her cat was poisoned to DEATH by LILIES like the flower!!! can you even believe it!! that is going to occupy my brain for like, the next 2 weeks.  anyway, i feel like social media has been consistently closing the gap between regular person and internet personality ever since like, myspace. there are BILLIONS (maybe) of people online. anybody could be an influencer or become a real celebrity. plus, there are so many niche communities on the internet, and within those there are like popular people or accounts. it's really so interesting how our culture ...
